Jews lived in the land of Israel continuously for 4,000 years. The Romans took away Jewish sovereignty and changed the name to Palestine, but Jews remained as the inhabitants. Archaeological finds from the 5th century show Jews still inhabited Israel then. A census from 1695 shows Jews still as the majority of inhabitants.
